Alumni - PhD Graduates

Dr Matthew Wright (PhD 2015)

“The effect of blend composition on bulk heterojunction organic solar cells”

Matt actually predates spectre (lead supervisor: Prof. Gavin Conibeer), but we’re proud to have him as an honorary alumnus! He is currently an Extraordinary Junior Research Fellow in Materials at the Queen’s College and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow University of Oxford.

Dr Arman Mahboubi Soufiani (PhD 2017)

“Opto-electronic characterization of perovskite solar cells”

Arman also predates spectre (lead supervisor: Scientia Prof. Martin Green), but will always be considered a part of its foundation! Arman is currently a Research Scientist at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.

Dr Yi Zhang (PhD 2017)

“Study on III-V materials for hot carrier solar cell absorbers”

Yi also predates spectre (lead supervisor: Prof. Gavin Conibeer). He is currently an Assistant Professor at Hohai University.

Dr Akasha Kaleem (PhD 2023)

“Femtosecond Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy Unravels Photophysics of Polyacene Molecules In Singlet Fission”

Akasha is the first official graduate of spectre - she has just taken on a new role as the Director of Materials Science at AI4Science.

Dr Abhinav Sharma (PhD 2023)

“The role of remote valleys in photovoltaic devices”

Abhinav has just finished in our group (lead supervisor: Dr Fiacre Rougieux). He has taken a postdoctoral position at LMU Munich, in the Chair in Hybrid Nanosystems, on ultrafast spectroscopy of surface acoustic waves!

Alex Baldacchino

“Unravelling Ultrafast Carrier and Excitonic Transfer Processes between Tetracene and Silicon”

Alex is currently a postdoctoral researcher for Omega Silicon at UNSW

Alumni - Staff

Dr Shukla Poddar

Shukla was an integral part of the PlayEnergy project - testing scenarios, designing course material, and assessing the efficacy of the game as an educational tool. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at UNSW and an expert in the effects of climate change on renewable energy production

Dr Charles Hall

Charles was paramount to the success of PlayEnergy. He developed the code describing the thermodynamics and renewable energy production in the game.

Charles is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at Uppsala University in the Ångström Laboratory, working on the development of battery technologies.
